This year European Heritage Days in Georgia will take place from 4 - 6 October under the common theme “Arts and Entertainment”. National institutions in the heritage and cultural sectors, state museums, local municipalities in cooperation with local museums, local art schools, local libraries, local music schools, local cultural centres, and local youth centres in 40 municipalities will be celebrating the shared heritage with more than 100 events.

Pop-up cinema opening event

The opening event will take place on the 4th of October in Tbilisi. For this occasion, the Georgian National Film Centre with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, will hold a pop-up cinema screening in a park that is listed a cultural landscape of heritage significance.

A silent movie “Amok” will be screened alongside the live music that was written especially for this show. The Movie Amok was directed by Kote Marjanishvili (XX century famous Georgian film director) in 1927 based on a well-known novel of the same title written by Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. The National Archives of Georgia have just finished scanning and copying of the film tape, which was brought back to Georgia from Moscow in 2017. 

Pop-up cinemas will be organized in Zugdidi at the Historical and Architectural Museum, in Lentekhi at the Main Library and in the capital itself. A puppet-making workshop along with the talk on the historical processes of the development of puppet theatre and puppet performances will take place in Batumi, at the State Puppet and Adults Spectators Theatre, while in Kutaisi a street art festival with mime artists and acrobats will cheer up the historic streets.

A pop-up art districts will be opened in the main parks of the towns and at the heritage sites, where young people and children will have the opportunity to paint local, national and European heritage, create and exhibit handmade crafts in Aspindza, Kharagauli, Poti, Khulo, Oni, Zestaponi, Baghdadi, Tskaltubo, Zugdidi, Senaki, Gori, Khashuri, Telavi, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Ninotsminda and others. Activities will involve aspects of different European countries’ culture, including the Twin towns in Europe. During the ceramic making workshop in Karagauli Museum kids will paint potteries with the national symbols of European countries. 

European music and dance all over Georgia and a pyjama party in the library

A free concert of mixed European songs, classical music, folklore, theatre performance and a flash mob performing choreography of mixed European dances will be organized in Samtredia, Kutaisi, Abasha, Zugdidi, Senaki, Oni, Tsageri, Gori, Khashuri, Telavi, Aspindza, Borjomi, Akhaltsikhe, Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti (In Ozurgeti different European Music will be performed by traditional Georgian instruments), Sachkhere, Chiatura, Poti, Sighnaghi, Kharagauli, Batumi using historical places in their respective municipality as the main stage. Youth will present Georgian and mixed European folklore, perform European dances, and explore their origins and how musical styles, instruments and ways of listening to music have changed throughout history. Karaoke parties will be organized in several towns as well.

Free dance classes at the Old Clock Tower in Poti: Masterclasses in different European Dance including Greek Sirtaki, Viennese Waltz, Polka, Bolero, etc.

The Central Library of Baghdadi organizes a day-time pyjama party for kids - traditional tales, fables, legends and myths from a different place of Europe will be explored, after which kids will paint their favourite tale personage.

Vazha Pshavela House Museum in Chargali, in the mountains of Georgia, organizes a workshop in the traditional way of knitting that is characterized only for the region of Georgia - Pshavi. Everyone is welcome to create their masterpiece and take it home!
