In the dowtown of Szeged, in széchenyi Square, one of the most precious building is the City Hall whose history dates back to the 18th century. Important characteristics: the well-proportioned musical clock tower in the courtyard, the beautifully decorated council chamber, the weddig chamber, the works of art, on the corridor walls, by the painters of the Great Plain and the Bridge of Sighs creating connection to the adjacent eclectic palace. There are also remarkable parts of the building as the glazed tiles and thedetailed tinwork on the garret roof, the pfoenix above the arch simbolising the rebirth of the city, the decorated chimnies and the glass windows of the staircase. The historical eclectic-neobaroque City Hall is still the centre of the public administration of Szeged.
