In earlier times, the watchman trumpeted the hours from the New Town Hall and it performed the role of a fire "guardhouse". It is dominated by a 70-metre tower with a gallery offering one of the most beautiful views of Prague. The New Town Hall has been one of Prague's national cultural heritage monuments and a budget-financed organisation of the borough of Prague 2 since 2007 and its unconventional historical representational areas are currently used as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, festivals, weddings and other various public and private events. A cafe is open daily in the courtyard and it is a frequent venue for events which are especially aimed at young people.
