Die Villa war ab den 1940er-Jahren Wohnhaus und Atelier des Bildhauers Berthold Müller-Oerlinghausen. Der Künstler nahm daran Umbauten vor, für die der Architekt Hans Scharoun verantwortlich zeichnete. Während äußerliche Veränderungen durch NS-Bauvorschriften streng unterbunden wurden, deutet sich Scharouns Verständnis einer organischen Architektur im Innern des Gebäudes an.
