This year, Lukiškės Prison will open its doors specifically for European Heritage Days’19. The Lukiškės Prison built in 1904, was called the "Prison Fortress" as it was the most modern prison in the entire Russian Empire: it had a separate water supply, sewerage and heated air supply system. Lukiškės Prison complex has 6 buildings - prison building, prison-hospital building, industrial and administrative buildings, St. Nicholas' Miracle Church, the crossing control post. The whole complex is a state protected historical heritage. The prison was closed in July 2019.
