The Superintendency organizes an extraordinary opening and a guided tour by the officials of the Superintendency in the Nymphaeums Dorico and Bergantino in Castel Gandolfo, on the mornings of 21 and 22 September 2019.
The Nymphaeums characterize the landscape around the lake of Castel Gandolfo and they are residential monuments from the Republican and Imperial periods of the Castelli Romani area. The Doric Nymphaeum takes its name from the Doric-style entablature of a high-quality architecture, while the Bergantino, from the boat "Il Brigantino" that Pope Alexander VII used to put in the 17th century; but its history is linked to that of the sumptuous residence of the emperor Domitian, of whom it was an annex of great charm, recalling in style a natural cave and decorated as it was with a mythological statuary cycle.
Guided tours will lead visitors to discover a past rich in culture and history.
Meeting place: intersection between Via A. Gramsci and Via dei Pescatori (near the Doric Nymphaeum). The visits will depart from the Dorico and will continue at the Bergantino in two shifts: 10.00 am and 11.30 am.
