The Gizella chapel is one of the pearls among the monuments of Veszprém. The 13th- century frescoes of the oldest Hungarian private chapel of the bishop or the king, which were built at the order of Bishop Robertus, are among the earliest frescoes in Hungary. The keystones are also unique. The frescoes, which depict the apostles, indicate Byzantine influence. The lower chapel is the most outstanding work of the religious art of the late Árpád Era. It is particularly interesting in part because it was one of the first sites of monument reconstruction in Hungary.
