The present building is of significant monumental, architectural value and is a prominent element of the townscape. Today the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights is housed in the building which was designed by Frigyes FESZL, Károly GERSTER and Lipót KAUSER and whose construction took place from 1846 through 1848. The building was used as one of the most famous hotels of Budapest for more than half a century, later as a bank, and then as an office building. The building was originally built for the Oszvald brothers, wholesalers in Nuremberg and citizens in Pest. They let out the building for the purpose of a hotel.
