Overview

I live in the small town of Demir Kapija, small in size but big in terms of cultural heritage-kayak, alpinism, tunnel with inscription 1916, cave Bela Voda, St. Nicholas Church, cactus Opuncio in village of Klisura, white headed eagle. This is our treasure, this is our cultural heritage. We want Europe to get to know us,to hear about us,to share the European values with all the peoples of Europe,So you are welcome to read my story.

My Modest Contribution to Eternity It is 05.04.2019 and it is 10:00 am sharp at the observed area 100 kilometers south of Skopje, Republic of Macedonia at the corridor 10, more specifically at the entrance of the Demir Kapija gorge. At this very place, the noise by the Vardar river draws our attention to one of the most beautiful paths for rough water kayak. The voices of the young kayak drivers can still be heard who were fighting the eternal river 25 years ago in order to win and tame that wilderness. It is 10:15 am sharp -water element is going by into the quiet mirror above which the rocks, a work of art of the sculpture genius – the nature, overtop the river. Over the rocks fear fighters held by thin ropes travel to the top of the sky tops and look at the iron gate. We cross through a tunnel dug in a rock in 1916 and we notice an inscription and signature of the person who ordered and the person who performed – construction worker. It’s 10:25 am – near the road a scrubby opening in the rock marked with a red circle and an arrow. Entrance into the White Water Cave which is 1091 meter-long with a MARGARITINO lake in the middle. In the lake where microorganisms still dwell from the Jura period. A place of one of the greatest communities of bats and a few almost disappeared samples of this type found their last shelter here. The cave is closed. Why? It is so due to the fact that while our awareness does not reprogramme the speed of maturation for necessary caring behavior and complete protection of this invaluable pearl in the crown of nature. In this way, we will pass a great inheritance to the future generations and not confirmation of unawareness. We are travelling to the south and the corridor 10 highway is above us which has managed to avoid the White Water Cave and has therefore confirmed that the White Water Cave is as well as the Iron Gate Gorge is, actually, “European, and yet all ours.” It’s 10 : 30 am – we are passing under the bridge at the corridor 10 and we take the asphalt road to the west village Klisura. At 10 : 40 am we parked in front of the church St. Nikola built in 1874.To the left of the church is the reason for our presence here – the field with cactus (opuncio) – the only field with cactus in a natural environment in this part of the Balkan. Completely left is the elevated rocky wall 899 meters high created by geological depression like a south part of the rocky massif Krastavec . On the ridges of the rocks is nesting griffin– protected species of eagle in the world ornithological newsletter. Right around the field with cactus grows Mediterranean oak popularly known as PRNAR. At 11 : 30 am – we sit in the yard of the church looking at the material “ bio – diversity” of Demir Kapija on a correctly prepared text which lacks two stages. One is the map of bio – diversity and second is the photo album of flora and fauna that makes up the bio – diversity of Demir Kapija. It’s 12 : 30 am– we agree on an action plan to apply for funds from the competition “ Days of European Cultural Heritage”
