Journées européennes du patrimoine

Theme for 2023: Living Heritage

30 September 2022

This year, the European Heritage Days (Journées européennes du patrimoine) are organised under the theme “Living heritage” and will focus on intangible heritage, which includes the practices, knowledge and know-how of communities and groups of people. In Luxembourg, there is an inventory of intangible heritage which brings together these practices for the purpose of identification and safeguarding on www.iki.lu. For example, part of the intangible heritage in Luxembourg: Iechternacher Sprangprozessioun, Klibbere goen, d’Konscht vum Dréchemauerbauen, Haus- a Flouernimm, etc.

Indeed, intangible heritage involves, by definition, largely the population and thus fits perfectly into the spirit of the EHD which have always been based on a participatory approach and have the objective of bringing together society to make it appreciate the richness of heritage.

Furthermore, 2023 is the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention of October 17, 2003 for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and the 15th anniversary of the Luxembourg national inventory. So this year we want to raise awareness among a wide public, particularly on aspects of intangible heritage, through various awareness-raising events and projects such as discoveries and demonstrations of know-how and practices, but also more broadly, guided tours of buildings or historic sites. or museum collections or even workshops, conferences, projects relating to new technologies, concerts or any other event linked to heritage.

On September 30, the “Dag vum Immaterielle Kulturierwen” (Intangible Heritage Day) will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg-Grund.
