Are you an experienced copywriter or journalist? Do you like exploring different cultures? Are you interested in helping heritage communities share their work? Then we need you in our European Heritage Days team!

About European Heritage Days

The "European Heritage Days" is a joint Council of Europe / European Commission programme involving the 50 countries signatory to the European Cultural Convention. Every year more than 30 million Europeans take advantage of the Programme, gaining free access to thousands of heritage sites and special events.

Until a few years ago, all these events were only promoted through national networks in participating countries. Both the Council of Europe and the European Commission were united in their desire to emphasise the "European Dimension" of the Programme. The European Heritage Days portal was developed to give visibility to every event across Europe.

About the role

Online content

We are looking for experienced copywriters/journalists to deliver articles on topics relevant to European heritage, in order to transfer clear and informative messages to the visitors and organisers of the European Heritage Days events. You will be announcing the celebrations of cultural heritage in participating countries, like the one that was done for European Heritage Days celebration in Slovenia. News articles highlighting the specific type of events will also be on your list. Check the Five Inspiring European Heritage Days Traditions.

Besides reporting on celebratory events, it will be expected of you to deliver a series of articles on the outcomes of the Programme's other activities, which include, for example, progress made on the grant scheme of the Call for European Heritage Days Stories, or European Heritage Makers Week.

For some of the articles, you will be expected to find the information/content independently, using your research skills. For some pieces, you will be provided with the necessary information to write a clear and informative article. You are also expected to be able to edit previously drafted articles from other authors.

Printed content

We are also looking for copywriting services for brochures and similar promotional materials. Good examples are the Rules of participation for the Call for European Heritage Days Stories or the annual 101 Event ideas brochure
