In the Republic of Moldova, European Heritage Days began on 10 September and will draw to a close on 12 October, offering something to everyone who is interested in European art, culture and heritage.

The programme is organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research in the frame of the cross-frontier project between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine with the financial support of the Council of Europe.

This year’s European Heritage Days events will transform the country’s cultural institutions by looking at heritage in new ways. If people previously visited museums in order to admire exhibits, this time they will have the opportunity to visit their favorite characters from theatre in the museum halls. The main goal is to reinvigorate people’s interest in the theatre and museums, as well as to develop their creativity.

Theatres host exhibitions that highlight the European dimension of art from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, as well as the special role of artists who have promoted European culture in our area.

As part of the European Heritage Days events, an exchange of exhibitions and theatre performances between Ukraine and Republic of Moldova has been organised. In this way, we want to encourage people to view local culture heritage as part of a broader, common European cultural heritage.

There is something for everyone, from creative workshops for children and young people as well as for all admirers of our cultural heritage. During the European Heritage Days, events will include painting, dance, theatre, of making carpets, embroidery and moulding clay (according to Cucuteni-Tripolye Culture’s tradition). Their goal is to give visitors a chance to be creative, and will offer them the chance to revisit art and culture through active participation.
