Insects such as mayflies are also used by scientists to determine how healthy a river is. Liz will demonstrate how samples are taken and you will have an opportunity to sort through trays of samples to learn why the Bunowen River is classified as 'Moderate' ecological status. Higher up where the river rises, the ecological status is classified as 'High', dropping to 'Good' halfway down the catchment and then to 'Moderate' at the bridge.
