Past Times: Marino 1917 Allotments
Topics will include the volume/vegetables types grown; potato spraying problems; prizes for best vegetables and allotments; visits of the Lord Lieutenant and Chief Secretary to Marino. Noel will discuss how they worked there and at Fairview Sloblands for payment. Many rented plots the size of 2 tennis courts for 11 months of the year. Older, employed men such as policemen, teachers, brewers, labourers, tram workers and working gardeners grew vegetables on allotments nearby to Marino House.
