Auld Kirk, Tayport
7 September 2025 (11:00 - 16:00) A religious site since 1607, the Auld Kirk’s present structure dates from 1794. It is one of the oldest buildings in Tayport and an important landmark. The impressive John Miller organ was built and installed in 1899 in a newly created bay. The Auld Kirk is developing as an Arts, Music and Heritage Centre, retaining the building’s historic features. The surrounding graveyard has many interesting slabs reflecting Tayport’s maritime history and also the family grave of renowned local artist and cartoonist Martin Anderson, better known by his pseudonym Cynicus. Display of maps, photographs, Tayport Heritage Trail boards, and film footage of Tayport’s history, including the Millennium carol concert in the Auld Kirk. 2.00 pm Guided tour of Auld Kirk graveyard by Dr Iain Flett 3.00 pm Tour and talk about the Auld Kirk’s history by Simon King-Spooner There are access ramps but the path through the graveyard is not very wheelchair friendly.
