Abbatija Tad-Dejr - Open Day
On Saturday 2nd October, Heritage Malta is inviting the public to visit two unique sites which are normally closed for conservation purposes - St Augustine’s Catacombs and Abbatija Tad-Dejr in Rabat. Lying in close proximity, these two sites also share a similar past. Abounding in exquisite examples of rock-cut tombs, both of these sites offer a mine of information on the Punico-Roman period and some of the earliest Christian communities on our islands. Indeed, the oldest representation of a crucifix in Malta was found in a niche carved in one of the walls of the cosy medieval chapel at Abbatija tad-Dejr, now exhibited at MUŻA.
Tickets at a reduced price of €3 giving joint access to these two sites will be available for purchase at the entrance of both sites on the day. Heritage Malta members enter for free. Opening hours are 10:00 to 16:30.
