Funded by Heritage Fund and Historic Environment Scotland, the 5 year scheme focuses on the historic core of Penicuik town centre and aims to tackle the effects of poor building maintenance, loss of architectural features, inconsistent shop-front design and unsympathetic public realm works. It has also offered training in traditional construction skills and the opportunity to develop community engagement projects relating to the history and heritage of Penicuik.
There will be an exhibition and presentation about the work of the project over the last 5 years with particular focus on the development of the Penicuik Town Heritage Trail. We hope it will also be possible for visitors to view the restored and repaired old Hearse House in St Mungo's churchyard. This should all combine to give visitors a fascinating insight into the work of the project and the history of the town.
