Overview

12 September 2021 (1 pm to 3 pm) Inverclyde Learn about its history neolithic
legacy, religious development and turmoil, the importance of the town in the
second world war and meet its famous former residents. Our journey starts at
Gourock Railway Station with its important collections of historic
informational panels and posters, through the site of the famous Bay Hotel,
along Kempock Street with its award winning shopping to the swimming pool one
of only two remaining outdoor pools in Scotland. We will then climb up Bath
Street to take a peek at the Neolithic stone known locally as Granny Kempock's
Stone. We will carry on past the bowling green to have a look at the lovely St
Bartholomew's Church. We then travel along Binnie Street to view the former
Gourock Primary School then along Royal Street finding the home of Mary
Macleod, mother of the former President of the USA Donald Trump. A visit and
guided tour of one of Gourock's very interesting churches will be arranged. We
will then walk through Darroch Park to reach Gourock Park where we will have a
short break enjoying the flower beds and the birds and animals in the
children's area. We will finish by walking along Shore Street looking out for
the 'Secret Garden and the George Wylie Memorial Garden and finishing back at
the Railway Station. The walk will take approx. two hours and is mostly on
pavements and or pathways with some climbing up Bath Street. (altitude 81
