11 September 2021 (10:30-12:30) Inverclyde We will meet at Newark Castle in
Port Glasgow at 10am and from there we will spend the next two hours exploring
the history of this interesting town. We’ll hear how the town grew from a
small riverside settlement to a planned new town – the Newport for Glasgow.
Tobacco, sugar, hemp, and timber were just some of the goods brought by ship
to the port. We’ll look at what remains of Port Glasgow’s important
shipbuilding heritage and explore the town as it is today. We will then return
to Newark Castle where the tour will end at noon. Book your tour here.
