Aus dem so genannten „Lateinischen Brief“ des Bischofs Reginbert von Passau vom 25. August 1144 geht hervor, dass die „nobilissima domina“ Hildburg, Witwe des Grafen Gebhard von Poigen-Rebgau, auf ihrem Gutsbesitz in Altenburg eine Mönchszelle nach der Regel des hl. Benedikt erbaut und an die erste Mönchsgemeinschaft übergeben hatte – der Beginn von fast 900 Jahren klösterlichem Leben im Stift Altenburg! Am Tag des Denkmals stehen aber nicht nur das Kloster an sich, sondern auch die vielen Höfe und Gärten im Vordergrund. Eine Entdeckungsreise zu oft Übersehenem!
