11 September 2021 (11:00 - 14:00) Midlothian Vogrie retains much of its
character as a Victorian parkland estate, with sweeping carriage drives,
beautifully landscaped vistas, an original walled garden and the baronial-
style Vogrie House. Built in 1876 by Andrew Heiton, Town Architect for Perth,
the house is a fine example of Victorian baronial splendour and one of the
best surviving examples of Heiton's work. The house was a typical country
house with a library, servants quarters and many bedrooms. Transformed in the
1920s into a nursing home for the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, the house was sold
on to local government in the 1950s and had a role during the Cold War as a
control centre for communications. For Doors Open Days 2021 we are inviting
you to come in for a nose around and a guided tour to learn some fascinating
facts of how Vogrie has developed over the centuries, from country estate to
country park. Guided tours at 11:00 and 14:00, lasting approximately 45
minutes. Ages 16+. Booking essential - please telephone 01875 821716 (Friday-
Monday). Please note that standard parking charges apply. Refreshments
