We at Kinning Park Complex will be hosting an event that will celebrate women and the role they play in history, and link to the sit-in that has resulted in what Kinning Park Complex now is.
The building was renovated and reopened in 2022 putting it on a secure footing to deliver for the future.
This will be delivered in partnership with Protests & Suffragettes CIC (a long time tenant at KPC) and will take the form of a talk and possible screening of a film, and served with soup. Exact timings are to be confirmed.
Alongside this there will be an exhibition on display in the communal areas of the building which will document the history of the building with pictures and information (eg: newspaper cuttings etc). This will be open to the public during our opening hours
Overview
Kinning Park Complex is a community anchor organisation that occupies an old school annex built in 1911.
In 1996 a sit in by local women in response to council plans to close the building, resulted in the building being given back to the community.
In 2018 it was one of the first urban buildings to use Community Asset legislation and become wholly owned by Kinning Park Complex SCIO as a resource for its local community.
KPC is a much cherished building by its local community and it’s sympathetic renovation which kept a lot of the original features and feel of the building remind people of the past and conjure memories, but also make it a place where people want to come and be part of again and make it part of their future.
