Gilmerton Heritage Champions
27 September 2025 (10:30 - 13:00) Come along to find out more about the Gilmerton Village Heritage Project. Meet members of the project, including Gilmerton Cove, Community Centre etc, to find out more, and/or get involved. There will be displays from Gilmerton Cove, (which is currently closed, but with plans to open in 2026/7), images of old maps and events from Gilmerton’s past including Gilmerton Play Days and buildings/greenspaces that form the Conservation area. Copies of a recent report will be available, that include local resident’s memories of the past, and proposals for developing the historic heart of Gilmerton as a place to meet, learn, and celebrate together. There will also be two stalls – home baking and craft, with a planned craft activity. Live streaming of the Mercat Cross event we are running simultaneously (see separate listing) will be available as part of the event. 2025 Theme - Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future This event will encourage local residents and visitors to learn more about the history and heritage of Gilmerton Village and surrounding areas, including studying old maps of the area, images of previous community events such as Gilmerton Play Days, with participants encouraged to share memories, local knowledge, suggestions for development and/or use of buildings/greenspaces in the future.
