The positive vibe that could be felt on the streets of Yerevan and other Armenian cities during European Heritage Days once again confirmed that this one of the most exciting cultural events in the country!

The unique energy of visitors, the creative approaches of event organisers, and the extraordinary dedication of heritage institutions and communities across Armenia yielded another marvellous European Heritage Days year. Building upon all the outstanding experiences from previous years, the 2017 events plummeted in creativity!

The Flashmob announced the opening of a three-day heritage adventure through over 100 historical and cultural sites! Monuments, museums, libraries, and other sites across the country were open to let visitors to explore local treasures and shared European values. In addition to being able to visit Armenia’s iconic sites, visitors could also enjoy a variety of contests, master classes, and traditional gatherings.

From taking a photography course at the historic Lori Fortress, to attending a traditional Armenian wedding, this year’s European Heritage Days offered a truly diverse set of activities.

The festival was launched on 30th October by A. Amiryan, Minister of Culture of Armenia, H.E. Mr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Armenia and Kh. Hakobyan, Deputy Minister of Nature Protection of Armenia. The opening ceremony was held at Sochut Dendropark and Lori Fortress, where the theme Heritage and Nature was introduced and where visitors could take guided tours or chat with specialists on the histories and values of these sites.

The children had an opportunity to participate in the Nature and photography session, which provided guidance on how to take excellent photos in nature. In the Lori Fortress, participants could also take photos in traditional Lori costumes to have them as souvenirs of European Heritage Day 2017.

Supported by the European Union Delegation in Armenia, as well as the Ministries of Culture and the Nature Protection of Armenia, this year’s programme continued the series of successful European Heritage Days years in Armenia. It helped create some memorable experiences that speak about the grandness of ideas behind European Heritage Days, not only in Armenia, but the entire Europe.
