Only a couple of months after the 2016 Heritage Week ended, Ireland has started getting ready for the next year’s heritage adventures. Starting on 19th August 2017, the next edition of this major cultural festival will offer a programme of about 1700 events that will be taking place until the 27th August, when Irish cultural and historic institutions will reopen their doors with thematic exhibitions, workshops, guided tours and other events.

This time, the programme will be dedicated to exploring nature and a number of natural wonders Ireland is famous for. Its natural reserves, breath-taking landscapes, forests rich in wildlife and biodiversity will all be brought into spotlight to highlight all the intrinsic connections between environment, people and places. Visitors will be able to enjoy guided walks, excursions, family outings and other exciting events that bring Irish natural heritage closer to them. Inviting everyone to join the celebrations of their natural heritage, the organisers have given a sneak peek to all the fascinating places Heritage Week 2017 can take them.

Supported by The Heritage Council, Heritage Week is a highly appreciated event that brings thousands of visitors, volunteers and organisers together across the country. Over the last couple of years, its significance has been growing with more individuals and organisations joining the celebrations every year to uncover values and hidden histories of Ireland’s abundant heritage sites. With the official announcement released in late November 2016, the Heritage Week has opened a call for all interested local organisers, community groups, schools and cultural editions to be a part of the programme. More information, as well as the Organiser Toolkit can be found on the Heritage Week official website.
