The jubilee tenth edition of European Heritage Days in Montenegro is calling cultural institutions, heritage groups, as well as public and private organisations to join the convivial week in September with an event themed Heritage and Nature.

As announced by Montenegrin Ministry of Culture, organisers from all across the country are welcome to submit their projects and be a part of the pan-European celebration of natural heritage. The festival will take place between 25th and 30th September, when the marvelous nature and natural landscapes of Montenegro will be put in spotlight.

Following this year’s common theme, the 2017 European Heritage Days in Montenegro aim to bring citizens closer to their environment through a series of nature-inspired events. The activities can include exploratory walks and tours, educational sessions, workshops and thematic exhibitions at any site that carries historical, cultural or natural value for local communities.

The deadline for the submission of projects is 15th June and the organisers are encouraged to consult 101 Event Ideas for 2017 Heritage and Nature to find the most engaging way to present their ideas.

Like in previous years, the programme will be available free of charge to encourage the largest number of citizens to explore the richness and diversity of heritage around them. In 2016, European Heritage Days saw a success celebrating Heritage and Communities, with 6 municipalities offering inspiring interpretations of the theme.

This year, the focus will shift from people to their surroundings to put a new perspective on the breath-taking landscapes, marvellous coastline and rural areas of the Adriatic jewel. With a general goal of making heritage closer to the public in Montenegro, European Heritage Days will honour traditional Montenegrin historic and cultural values in a new, exciting way.

Interested candidates can submit their programme plans to jelena.zaric@mku.gov.me. More information about the events will be available on the European Heritage Days portal.
