The monumental streets of Tabor once again will become a pageant of medieval life in South Bohemia during the International Historical Festival 2017.

Taking place during the 2017 European Heritage Days in the Czech Republic, the festival will celebrate the town’s history with assemblies of armed warriors, chivalrous knights, beautiful damsels, skilled troubadours and other medieval characters marching down the old square.

This will be the 26th edition of one of the most exciting yearly events in the city and it will transform its streets into an authentic medieval setting to celebrate the distant past. For three days, citizens will have an opportunity to learn more about their history through immediate encounters with notable 15th century figures.Hussite warriors will rise to follow their leader Jan Žižka of Trocnov, who once ruled the city, and this will be an occasion to stand face to face with history.

The festival’s programme will include various music and theatre performances, open-air events, as well as games and competitions for children. During the festival, everyone will have an opportunity to become a knight, monarch, barkeeper or a medieval musician for several days and experience the spirit of middle ages. This way, the festival will encourage greater participation in the exploration of history and enhance their understanding of the foundations of their city and culture.

The International Historical Festival will be only one of the ways to celebrate European Heritage Days in the Czech Republic this September. Heritage will be celebrated throughout the country with numerous cultural and historic organisations featuring a special programme to highlight its values.  Some of the notable sites that offer free admissions on the occasion of European Heritage Days include the City of Prague Museum, Ctěnice Chateau, Podskalí Custom House at Výtoň, House at the Golden Ring and many more!

This is truly a unique opportunity to experience the Czech history, lifestyle and traditions! For the full programme of the International Historical Festival, visit this page, while the information about European Heritage Days events can be found here.
