The 4th edition of the traditional Video Mapping contest in Lille, France, is calling professionals and enthusiasts in audio-visual arts to enrich the European Heritage Days celebration! Photographers, graphic designers, video producers and creatives alike are welcome to submit their works for a chance to be featured at a marvelous public screening on the façade of Porte the Paris!

Steeped in history and glorious in design, Porte de Paris is the theme of this year’s contest. As a unique emblem of the City of Lille, this astounding 32 metres-high baroque edifice dating from 17th century evokes multiplicity of interpretations. Its outstanding architecture, recognisable ornaments, conspicuous positioning, as well as historic and social context are an incredible source of knowledge about the city’s past.

Those who feel inspired by its history have an opportunity to provide audio-visual storytelling material for the occasion of European Heritage Days and be a part of this major cultural celebration in Lille. In previous years, the contest attracted a number of participants and visitors, resulting in a fascinating heritage-inspired experience. In 2015, the final screening took place at the façade of Theatre du Nord, which was a unique tribute to the history of the site.

Like in previous years, the selected works will be awarded a symbolic prize in addition to being featured during French European Heritage Days. Each selected work will receive a 500 euro prize, while the winner will get 2000 euros.

Organised for the fourth time, Lille’s Video Mapping Contest calls for new interpretations of the inspiring heritage of the Nord-Pas de Calais region. With support from Rencontres Audiovisuelles, a regional association dedicated to promoting and supporting the independent audio-visual creation, Citeos, the European Union and the Hauts-de-France Region, the contest encourages new creative approaches to heritage storytelling.

The applicants are invited to submit their designs, photos, video materials by August 15th, while pre-registrations are open until July 1st. The winners will be selected by an independent professional jury, which will particularly focus on works that coherently reflect on this year’s theme in France “Youth and Heritage.”

Detailed contest rules can be found on the Recontres Audiovisuelles website.
