Overview

Ireland's built heritage is pretty impressive. How many castles do you think are scattered across the country? It's hard to believe - more than 30 000! I fell in love with this heritage and I started a photo and text diary almost five years ago. I'd love to share some shots and stories from my trips, to involve people in a travel through time and encourage everybody to keep their eyes wide open next time when they're traveling.

Maybe on the way to your parents' house you've seen a pile of stones or an interesting ruin? Go closer, take pictures, and ask locals or simply google it. Let's reveal the secrets of Hidden Ireland by photo taking, researching and sharing.

Last year, 'Hidden Ireland' exhibition took place at Shop Street, Galway. In 2023 it'll be displayed at Thoor Ballylee Tower with the kind support of Yeats Thoor Ballylee Society.

Visitors are welcome on the 18th and 20th of August from 11am to 5pm.

I've selected 12 unique places in county Galway, a lot of them connected with the history of Thoor Ballylee. The pictures are taken in different seasons - sunny or cloudy, dry or rainy, even stormy, Ireland is beautiful at all times!

In response to this year Heritage Week's focus we've arranged a talk with Marie Finnerty, daughter of the last miller at Finnerty Mills. She will share the knowledge from the past about mills, milling and handling on the tradition on August 18th at 2 pm.
