Overview

From IES Santísima Trinidad we decided to partner on an multidisciplinary project with 5 highschools from Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. Initially, it was a science-based project about measurements, but we ended up studying about each other's culture through the instruments each country used in agriculture, astronomy, medicine, pharmacy and every other aspect of our heritage, considering each partner unique sites as an opportunity to learn from each other's heritage.

Measure me up! Is an Erasmus+ Project designed by six partners: Os Vladimira Becica Osijek (Croatia), Nikola Tesla Szerb Tanítási Nyelvu Óvoda, Általános Iskola, Gimnázium, Kollégium és Könyvtár (Hungary), Osnovna skola Sveti Sava Kikinda (Serbia), IES Santísima Trinidad (Spain) and Özel Marmaris Çağdaş Bilim Anadolu ve Fen Lisesi (Turkey). It started in 2020 and will finish in 2023. As the title indicates, the thread of the project is the measurement in every possible field that implies it: agriculture, gastronomy, astronomy, computering, physics, chemistry, mathematics... When the project was under development, we realized that a good way to get to know each other's heritage and culture was through the instruments that every country used along the time for measuring, and that became a staple activity that doesn't cease to surprise the students when participating in an LTT (Learning, Teaching and Training Activities): they gladly compare how similar or how different life has been just by comparing those basic tools through time, and how the measurement and the evolution of Science and the Scientific Method has been carried out in every different place. In addition to this, we have been able to share with students this experience while visiting unique locations, being especially remarkable the following: Úbeda and Baeza UNESCO heritage cities, and their tradition in olive oil cultivar and olive oil production. (Spain) Sibiu's medieval architecture through a sundial treasure hunt. Sibiu is currently on the tentative list of UNESCO’s heritage cities (Romania) Kikinda’s horse- powered dry mill, used for flour, black pepper and cinnamon grinding. This location is not included in any UNESCO heritage list yet, but it is one of the three remaining in the whole extension of Europe. Kikinda also hosts the skeletal remains of a female mammoth locally known as “Kika”, one of a kind biological and archaeologically because the 90% its preserved skeleton was found in a single location(Serbia) Budapest architectural heritage and modeling using ArchiCAD. Budapest, including the bank of the Danube, the Buda castle quarter and Andrassy Avenue are UNESCO’s heritage sites (Hungary) While visiting each other’s cities, we try to learn as much as we can about the culture, gastronomy and folklore as a part of the programme, so a day dedicated to our typical dances, food and traditions has become a must. Our upcoming destinations will be Croatia and Turkey, and our mission will continue to be enjoying Science and sharing our heritage with students.

European Dimension

One of the main goals of the project is to promote the cultural heritage among teenagers, to help them identify their own history and to share the common values we have with the partners of the project. So far, the participation of every member of the community involved has been very active, and we expect to continue this way in the future. The European dimension of this project and the activities within it has been carried out on multiple levels, including local and international. We believe in the promotion of cultural exchange of ideas, information and resources between different partners in European (and non European) countries, and we regard our cultural heritage as a resource, rather than an end or goal in itself. As we have become more aware of each other’s realities, we plan to cooperate in new projects in the future.
