Audio-Visual Heritage Experience in the City of Lille
For one night every autumn, one of Lille’s historic buildings comes to life within an audio-visual European Heritage Days spectacle. This year again, the event is calling for international film, media, and digital arts professionals to send their works and help take the citizens of Lille to a fascinating heritage tour in September.
As recently announced by Recontres Audiovisuelles, a Lille-based association dedicated to promoting and disseminating independent audio-visual creation and digital images, the fifth edition of the city’s traditional video mapping contest is now open. Videographers, digital animation specialists, graphic designers, and other audio-visual creatives are invited to celebrate European Heritage Days by sending their heritage-inspired images, animations, and videos.
The most remarkable works will be showcased within the 2018 European Heritage Days within a breath-taking screening at Lille’s historic Vieille Bourse, on the “Grand Place.” To get a glimpse of the last year’s celebrations at Porte de Paris, watch the video below!

The 2018 Theme and Contest Rules
Aligning with this year’s common theme of European Heritage Days and European Year of Cultural Heritage, the 2018 edition of Lille’s video mapping contest is dedicated to the theme of The Art of Sharing. Interested creatives are invited to send 2-5 minutes long videos for the façade of the Vieille Bourse, a 17th century building that previously housed Lille Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The monument itself reveals a story about the city’s economic and cultural development, attesting to both its progress and its centuries-old tradition. The participants are invited to explore this or any other European heritage sites and themes. The best works will be featured at this major yearly event and will receive 500 € each, while the winner will be awarded with a 2 000 € prize.
The videos will be selected based on the originality of the idea, heritage coherence of the artistic production, and its accessibility. Altogether, the selected works will be blended into a fascinating audio-visual experience that will showcase both the creativity of their authors and the richness of Europe’s cultural heritage and culture.
The deadline for the submission of all applications is 15 August and more information about the contest can be found here.
The contest is organised with the support of the City of Lille, Citeos, SNCF, the European Union (Europe invests in Hauts-de-France with the European regional development fund), and the Hauts-de-France Region. Their effort to keep this tradition going for years is an invaluable cultural tradition of the city that is hosting this contest for the fifth time in the row.
