Carved in Europe’s historic monuments, landmarks and heritage sites, the traces of our shared past are key to understanding our present. With many of such sites threatened to disappear due to natural disasters or human actions, it is a shared responsibility of all citizens to keep our history alive by helping preserve heritage around us.

To promote this idea and help create a sustainable future for Europe’s endangered heritage sites, the 7 Most Endangered programme helps highlight the need for immediate protection of numerous historic landmarks across the continent. Launched in 2013 by Europa Nostra and European Investment Bank Institute, the programme is one of Europe’s most important initiatives focusing on heritage preservation.

People, communities and institutions across Europe are invited to nominate endangered heritage sites and monuments in their regions and help preserve them through the 7 Most Endangered programme.

About the programme

The 7 Most Endangered programme helps threatened European monuments and sites by mobilizing communities together with public and private partners. It is not a funding programme, but the one that aims to serve as a catalyst for action.

Supported by the EU Creative Europe programme as part of Europa Nostra’s network project Mainstreaming Heritage, the 7 Most Endangered programme also helps rising awareness of the values of cultural and historic heritage.

How to Apply

The nominations for the 7 Most Endangered programme are open to Europa Nostra’s member and associate organisations as well as by established public and private bodies active in the heritage field located in countries where Europa Nostra is not yet represented.

If you know of important heritage that is endangered – such as a historic monument or archaeological site, a place of worship, an industrial complex, a historical park, a museum or even a movable heritage asset – nominate it for the 7 Most Endangered programme 2018. The final list of 7 most threatened heritage sites will be announced in February 2018, during the European Year of Cultural Heritage.
