This dedicated funding initiative, launched under the European Heritage Days programme—a joint action of the Council of Europe and the European Union—encourages innovative responses to this year’s theme: Architectural Heritage.

The 2025 competitive call highlighted the creative potential of EHL sites and Cultural Routes in preserving and promoting Europe’s diverse built environment. The selected projects demonstrate how architectural heritage can be a powerful tool for education, community engagement, dialogue, and sustainable development.

Selected Projects for 2025

Cisterscapes – The Cultural Laboratory
Žďár nad Sázavou, Czechia (European Heritage Label Site)
This participatory initiative engages young audiences in exploring Gothic architecture through hands-on workshops, digital storytelling, and international collaboration. The project will culminate in a public exhibition co-created by young participants, linking local narratives with broader European heritage.

European Route of Jewish Heritage – Incubator
Luxembourg (Cultural Route of the Council of Europe)
An annual platform for training and professional exchange, this year’s edition focuses on how architectural heritage can foster peace and counter hate speech. The Incubator strengthens the capacity of Jewish heritage professionals while building stronger networks across Europe.

Alvar Aalto Route – Open Route Day
Finland (Cultural Route of the Council of Europe)
A continent-wide event dedicated to showcasing the legacy of 20th-century architect Alvar Aalto. Sites across the Alvar Aalto Route will open to the public on the same day, supported by local programming and digital media, in alignment with European Heritage Days 2025.

These inspiring projects reflect the vitality and relevance of architectural heritage across Europe—whether through youth education, professional development, or public celebration.

We look forward to following their journeys throughout the year and to seeing how they enrich the 2025 European Heritage Days.
