Overview

This building, which predated the French Revolution, was modest but nevertheless equipped with a baroque altarpiece, underwent an ambitious restoration in 1868: construction of a wooden bell tower with two large bells, creation of a broken barrel vault, installation of two Mauméjean stained-glass windows. Soeix wanted to be at the height of the neighbouring villages. At the end of the 20th century, the building suffered a deterioration putting its existence in jeopardy. The actions carried out by the volunteers of the association «Save the church of Soeix» made it possible to start its rescue with, in 2019, the repair of the entire roof. On the eve of a second phase of work (renovation of the ground, electricity and interior walls), the municipality of Oloron-Sainte-Marie is preparing to give the church of Saint Lucia an aspect worthy of this symbol of the village.
