Overview

20 September 2025 (11:00 - 16:00)
After a successful Doors Open Day last year we are looking forward to another chance for the public to see the Lapidarium. A display of over one hundred carved copies of mediaeval and Pictish stones from all over Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Gotland, and Norway.
All the images are reproduced in sandstone based on the originals by sculptor Leslie Alan Reid who used them as templates for cloth rubbings which were sold in outlets such as the National Museum of Scotland and Historic Environment Scotland.
The sculptor will be on hand to explain the designs on the stones and where and when the originals were created. This is a chance to see an unrivalled collection of copies of 130 mediaeval and Pictish carved stones.
A Lapidarium is a place where stone monuments and fragments of archaeological interest are exhibited !
Unfortunately this is a venue not suitable for wheelchair access
