An Information Afternoon - A Decade of Struggle, 1916-1925 in Ballintrillick
This is a profile of those forgotten individuals involved in a decade of struggle, throughout the period of 1916-1925 in the Ballintrillick Area which is situated in North Sligo, by Hugh Gallagher, a native of Ballintrillick, in the County of Sligo. My focus for carrying out this project was to accurately record that period of time and to profile those involved.
The aim is to ensure that the records and information are not lost in history down through the generations. This is also an opportunity to invite other individuals to record or document their account of events in that period within that area. These additions will be vital in keeping with the accuracy of this information and in cataloguing all of the available information to us at this time.
Such events covered include the involvement of an individual in the preparation for the 1916 Rising, the formation of the second Sinn Fein Club in County Sligo, the struggle for freedom, the election of the only County Councilor from that area, namely PJ Rooney, the identification of the individuals involved in Cumann na Mán and the burning of the Ballintrillick Co-Operative Creamery by the Crown Forces.
