In 2024, Court was awarded Adopt a Monument status, as the community came together to preserve and discover more about this intriguing monument and it's connections to the wider landscape. This is an introduction to the monument, locally known as Court Abbey. Situated in the townland of Lavagh, near the foot of Knocknashee in south Sligo, are the ruins of Court. Although the Gothic architecture at rural Court is modest in comparison to its contemporaries at Moyne and Rosserk, it "must have been in its prime a truly imposing structure" (O'Rorke 1889, II, 121). Its architectural history, tower, designs and remaining paintings give us a glimpse at the importance of this priory.
