Overview

Located on a rocky spur overlooking the forest of Paimpont, in the heart of Brocéliande, the site of the medieval castle of Boutavent extends over two hectares. The castle was rediscovered in the late 1990s. The degree of wreckage of the remains and the vegetation that covers it make it very difficult to perceive the site. In 2002, it became an archaeological reserve accessible to the public. For several years, the ancient castle has been the subject of archaeological research and surveys to allow a better understanding of the history and the development of the remains. New structures are gradually appearing as a result of clearing and restoration work. This archaeological site is also a conservatory of landscapes where the forest, the moor and the grove still rub shoulders.
