Overview

Architect Constantin Melnikov. In Paris 100 after.

The exhibition marks two important dates: the 100th anniversary of the Exhibition of Decorative Arts 1925 in Paris, for which Melnikov designed a USSR pavilion, and also the 135th birthday of the remarkable Russian architect. The exhibition tells the story of the famous red pavilion created, just 100 years ago, by Melnikov accompanied by Alexander Rodchenko. His architectural work, for which he received a commemorative diploma, attracted attention and provoked many reactions. Melnikov created a form of synthesis of different trends of the European avant-garde with an apparent simplicity and incredible modernity, he was able to anticipate his time. The exhibition also presents other avant-garde projects of the architect carried out in Moscow, notably his family home which became a museum, the sports and cultural clubs, the garages. Melnikov’s work has greatly influenced later architecture and, to this day, remains modern and inspires new generations. The exhibition is organized with the support and comes from the archives of the Shchusev Museum of Architecture and the Melnikov House Museum in Moscow.
