Overview

In Nangy, at the bend of a path, stand the silent remains of a building built around the year 1000: the Château de Pierre. Its ruins, imbued with mystery, recall the first seigniorial fortifications, witnesses of the local history and the long memory of stones. Fragments of walls, silhouettes eroded by the centuries... this place invites to imagine the life of yesteryear, the guards posted at the entrance, the clash of weapons, but also the slow transformation of the village that developed around. Visitors are invited to a guided stroll around these ruins, to discover a rare and discreet heritage, which reveals the importance of Nangy from the Middle Ages. Each visit lasts about 45 minutes, the time of a journey where archaeology meets imagination. Departures are organized according to the affluence, so that everyone can fully enjoy the experience. But the adventure does not stop at medieval stones. By crossing the courtyard of the adjoining farm, the journey continues towards the 19th and early 20th century. The rural daily life comes back to life: we find there the gestures of yesteryear, the atmosphere of the classes animated by families and children, the smell of the seasons, the echo of past generations. The exhibition proposed in this context creates a dialogue between times and memories:

  • the achievements of the children of the town, inspired by the history of the place, offer a new and poetic look at heritage;
  • the ancient photographs of Nangy reveal a village in transformation, its inhabitants, its landscapes, its traditions – as many precious fragments of collective memory. On Saturday, the court will also be filled with voices and stories thanks to the storyteller Jean-François Deffayet. With his art of speech, he will weave bridges between eras, making old stones and ancient images vibrate to the rhythm of his stories. His tales, rooted in the local culture, give flesh to this intangible heritage that completes the visit of places. And throughout the weekend, surprises will punctuate the discovery: unexpected moments, small attentions, moments out of time... so many opportunities to let oneself be surprised and to add to the magic of the visit. Thus, the site of the Château de Pierre and the adjoining farm become, for a weekend, a living space where centuries intertwine. The medieval ruins, the rural life of the 19th century, the creativity of today’s children and the memory of the ancients come together to offer a unique experience: a journey through a thousand years of history, both intimate and universal. The European Heritage Days are an opportunity to (re)discover Nangy differently: by letting stones, voices, images and dreams speak. A meeting where everyone, big or small, finds material to be moved, to learn, to share... and to be amazed.
