Overview

13 September 2025 (10:00 - 15:00) This mini museum of local history provides a changing showcase for South Ayrshire`s historic past. The special exhibition for Doors Open Days will celebrate 700 years of Ayr Guildry. It was founded in 1325 and is the oldest voluntary group in Ayrshire. Originally promoting and regulating trade, it set prices, adjudicated in disputes and granted building and completion warrants and the qualification of tradesmen and apprentices. Originally a Merchant Guild, it was later joined by the Incorporated Trades (which funded a window in the Auld Kirk of Ayr in 1861). Special Exhibition: You can learn about the role of Ayr Guildry in local civic affairs before local government reorganisation in 1975. There will be memorabilia rarely seen on display such as the Hammermen’s Guild Box and the 20th-century Dean’s Chair demonstrating quality craft work.
