Baltimore Ringfort's 2024 National Heritage Week Event

Baltimore Community Hall, Co. Cork County
Show on the map
25 August 2025
Overview

Baltimore Ringfort Committee would like to invite you to an afternoon event celebrating and learning about the Ringfort and what life may have been like in the past.
The 2024 National Heritage Week theme invites you to explore the ways we are connected to each other through physical or cultural connections. We will be looking at those connections through food, crafts and culture.
Starting with a one hour guided walk to, and around, our Ringfort with an archaeologist and an artist we will discuss the landscape and the connection we have through the plants an animals here today and in the past. This walk starts at the Lifeboat Station and ends at the Hall. Back up in the Baltimore Community Hall the event will be officially opened by our Chairperson followed by our Keynote Speaker Regina Sexton speaking about Food in Medieval Ireland. There will be live traditional music playing as we host interactive demonstrations of crafts and food production in tents outside the hall. Sonia Caldwell will demonstrate traditional craft making, and have a display of crafts made by local schoolchildren at one of her workshops. Kathleen Courtney will demonstrate butter churning, after which our host will make some concluding remarks.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Parking available on-street. Accompanied children welcome. No food provided (though we will be talking all about food in the past!). Guided walk subject to weather conditions.
