Overview

Cork County Council invites you to a Bat Walk & Talk at Harper's Island Nature Reserve on Wednesday 21st August 2024 at 8:15pm.

Whether you are curious about bats, or know all about them and can't get enough, this event is for you.

Join Ecologist Tom O'Donnell and other ecologists from O’Donnell Environmental to experience the wonder of these amazing nocturnal creatures. The event will include a short sunset talk on bats, followed by a "bat walk" where, using ultrasonic detectors, you will be able to hear their echolocation calls, and thermal imaging cameras will allow you to see them flying at night!

This is an outdoor, night-time event so please dress appropriately and wear comfortable, sturdy footwear. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are not permitted. As bats are far less active in poor weather, the event is subject to favourable weather conditions.

This is a FREE event hosted by the Harpers Island Steering Group in conjunction with O'Donnell Environmental. Registration is essential as the event is limited to 25 attendees. To register please email biodiversity@corkcoco.ie.

We look forward to seeing you!
