Biodiversity walk along River Duff
Join the Sligo Biodiversity Officer and the Sligo/Leitrim Community Water Officer (LAWPRO) for a gentle stroll along the River Duff. Following the bankside path, we will explore the natural history of the river corridor, taking in the plant, bird, mammal and insect life as we see it - examining the themes of biodiversity and water quality through nature’s tangled networks, including food webs and habitats - and when we don’t see it in the flesh, looking for clues of its existence. If conditions allow, a sample will be taken from the river to demonstrate the wealth of insect and invertebrate life that our rivers can support.
The walk follows a well-maintained and level riverside pathway. Comfortable walking footwear is recommended, as well as weather-appropriate clothing. The riverbanks are unprotected, so caution is advised particularly with younger children.
Parking is available onsite, alongside the N15. Please be aware of traffic
The event is a collaboration between the Sligo County Council Biodiversity Officer and the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO).
Parking is limited so car sharing is encouraged.
