Bug Safari: discovering the mini-beasts of Glendalough

National Park Information Office, Co. Wicklow
Show on the map
20 August 2025
Overview

Join us for a fun and family-friendly exploration of the fascinating world of bugs in Glendalough! Adults and children are welcome. While the event is suitable for families, please note that the terrain may be challenging for buggies. We’ll provide bug jars and magnifying glasses for close-up views of our tiny discoveries. A limited number of butterfly nets and sweep nets will also be available to borrow. We’ll use beating sheets to gently collect insects from trees, and staff will carry out some pond dipping—while children won't be able to take part in the dipping themselves, everyone can gather around to view the creatures collected in large trays. This event is free, but booking is essential. To reserve your place, please email: educationwmnp@npws.gov.ie Parking: Available at the County Council Upper Lake Car Park (Eircode: A98 W778). Please note that parking charges apply, as it is managed on behalf of Wicklow County Council.
