Building Train Tracks - Childrens Art Workshop

Ardgillan Castle - Drawing Room, Co. Dublin – Fingal
Show on the map
21 August 2025
Overview

Let your child's creativity flow as they dive into the fascinating history of the Dublin and Drogheda Railway! Using recycled materials, children will create their own miniature train tracks and stations and get to test them out too! This fun and educational activity highlights the importance of connections and networks, echoing the historical significance of the Taylor Family Halt. In 1844, the Taylor Family had a special train halt built on their estate, providing a unique private connection to the railway. Though the halt and the level crossing were eventually removed, the legacy of these personal networks remains a charming part of our local history. Participants will learn about the small wooden platforms, the quaint brick hut, and the family’s influence on the railway line, sparking their imagination as they recreate this slice of history. Children are welcome to bring their own trains to use on the tracks! Children aged 6-9 years (Parents/guardians are welcome to stay and assist their children if they wish) Spaces are limited, booking is essential - please email eventardgillan@fingal.ie
