For Doors Open Days the team at Callendar House offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how we bring art and history to life in a magnificent mansion dating back to the 14th century!
11am-4pm – the Georgian Kitchen
Celebrate the opening of our new sensory interpretation space, and explore the sights, sounds, smells, and stories of Callendar House’s historic Georgian Kitchen! Then, visit the kitchen itself for some shortbread and interactive tales of working life in a large wealthy household from our costumed interpreter.
10:30am-12pm & 1-2:30pm – From the Archives
Our senior archivist opens the doors to the reading room to share some of her favourite documents, maps and stories from Falkirk’s extensive historic archives. Drop in during open hours to learn more about how we care for and conserve our collection.
11:30am & 2pm - Behind the Collections
Meet our Museum Curator and learn more about how we manage over 36,000 historic objects and over 80,000 archaeological artifacts! Get a sneak peek at some of the items from our museum store, the stories behind them and what we’re planning to do with them in the future.
2:30pm - Meet the Curator
Join our Exhibitions Officer in the Park Gallery for a guided tour of the Somewhere to Stay exhibition and a Q&A on what it takes to curate and present a free contemporary art programme in a historic building.
