Leslie is an ancient settlement thought to have developed as an agricultural township that serviced the Royal estate of Fettykil, established by King Malcolm IV no later than 1178. Historians suggest this settlement was close to a church that existed on or around the present site from at least the 10th century, indicating the name Fettykil is derived from Gaelic cll meaning ‘Wooden Kirk’. It is one of eleven Fife place-names that contains this Gaelic name element which form a cluster centred in East Fife, the only area of Scotland south of Inverness to contain such names. Refreshments, tea, coffee, soft drinks, will be available at Leslie Town Hall for a small charge. Refreshments served at the Leslie Town Hall
