Cloncrow Bog and Tyrrellspass Village Trail
Explore Cloncrow Bog and Village Trail.
Walk the village Trail and explore its unique Historic and Built Heritage.
The recently installed QR codes will reveal the hidden wonders along this 3.5 km walk across Cloncrow Raised Bog and through the Village with its Tyrrell Castle, Neo Georgian architecture, Imogen Stuart and John Bacon Jnr. Sculptures, Belvedere Orphanage, Wesleyan Church and the associated historic characters: Countess Jane of Belvedere, Captain Richard Tyrell and James Daly.
Cloncrow Raised Bog is one of the few intact bogs in the midlands. Learn about its restoration and the rich biodiversity which thrives in this ancient habitat. The carnivorous Sundew thrives in this environment as do the fascinating Sphagnum Mosses. Skylark and Meadow Pipits are among the birds which fill the skies with song. Butterflies and Moths nectar on the plants in the laneways and on the bog surface. Walk with ease along the wooden boardwalk elevated above the swampy mire.
