The heritage collections of the Méjanes libraries and the municipal archives of Aix-en-Provence have invested since February 2020 a new place within the cultural forum. The heritage collections of the Méjanes libraries and the municipal archives of Aix-en-Provence have invested since February 2020 a new place within the cultural forum. Built in 2004 by the Marseilles architect Jean-Michel Battesti, the 3,200 m2 building – intended for its design by the Departmental Archives – now offers ideal conditions for both the conservation of the collections and the reception of the public. The equipment houses 8 km of heritage collections in its reserves. The municipal archives collections trace 800 years of Aix history, in the form of parchments, paper files, photographs, postcards and plans. So many unique documents that constitute the memory of the city. L’accès est libre et gratuit. Pour la communication des documents, administrés, chercheurs ou simples curieux sont accueillis dans une salle de lecture confortable et lumineuse de 30 places assises. Espace dédié à l’accueil de groupes (conférences, ateliers…) et espace détente.
